From Bake Sales to Ancient Egypt Presentations!

Last week was a busy week again.  One highlight was the successful bake sale that you organized.  In three days you raised over 124 dollars for the Stand Tall Primary School in Uganda.  These pictures were taken the other day at the school of the students working at computers.  We have to decide how you would like your money to be used, perhaps to help buy more computers or to enlarge their school library or both.

You also had many classes get the opportunity to enjoy learning about your Ancient Egypt projects.   Many teachers told me how impressed they were with your multimedia presentations!!!
Here are a couple of pictures of some of you presenting!

Special congrats to the winning projects!  Imagine having five pairs tied!  Excellent work, Division One!

Bedtime Story Night-meant to post before

A couple of weeks ago, we had a very fun event. Simran, Pritha, and Van ended up helping and participating because they had younger siblings attending. We had a big crowd and lots of fun enjoying books, telling stories, drinking milk and eating cookies. The kids wore their pajamas and brought their stuffed animals, some of whom were bigger than they were!!! Parents and kids got to share stories and some of the other teachers and myself shared books as well with groups of parents.   Many of you help your younger siblings so much by reading to them!!! Here's a picture of the night for those of you who missed it.

Catching up

Well as usual it's been a busy couple of weeks. Before our break you did excellent presentations on aspects of Ancient Egyptian life. I thought I would post a few posters of some of your projects. Ms. Wong has been having a difficult time deciding who to declare the winners of the project.

And I think I haven't told you that you will be presenting them again on Thursday to other classes because Ms. Wong thought they were so good!

The Reading Cafe

Last week there was a fun project before school in the library-The Reading Cafe. It was so fun to see parents and grandparents and kids all reading together and of course sipping hot chocolate.
I know some of your parents love to read and some of your parents may feel they are too busy to read. One of the nicest things you can do is read with your younger brothers and sisters or even them seeing you read may inspire them to want to read!

The Jason Project

Have you ever wanted to go to the centre of the earth or deep below the ocean floor well now is your opportunity thanks to the Jason Project. Here you can learn more about our earth and even go on missions.
Here's an example of the effects of an earthquake. You should register so that you can use this project. Keep a record of your registration so you won't forget your password. It's very neat-in our science currently we are on mission four of the geological unit.
