Exploring Museums

Our moodle site is acting up this morning so I am going to post on here your next assignment. First I would like you to explore the Louvre. You can also explore in French just hit the button on top. Your project will be to explore other famous museums. Pick one and tell us all the fun facts about it-what is it's website, where is it located, why is it famous, why you would like to visit and what you would like to see. Make this in the form of an advertisement to make us want to visit! Now do you know the name of this famous picture in English and in French??
A great site to look at museums that particularly appeal to kids is this one

What I have been reading-The Maze Runner by James Dashner

This is the book trailer for the book that I read this weekend. This might be a fun project for you to try one day, developing a book trailer for a book you have read. I really enjoyed this book and it's the first in a series. Thomas finds himself literally thrust into a world where he nor anyone else has much memory of what happened before they arrived in The Glade, a community surrounded by a maze with no apparent way out.

Stand Tall- a visit to Uganda...

It's always great when we have visitors. And I know you really enjoyed our visit from Dr. Honey Halpern yesterday. I know she is going to really enjoy reading your reports about that visit. This is the link to the school's website that she described in her talk. You can even watch a video taken at the school. It is located in Kampala, Uganda, and is a no fees school for children who can't afford a government school.

Here are some more facts about children in Uganda. To learn more about Uganda in general just click here. Here is an excellent short inspiring video from UNICEF that mentions Uganda as a place with some of the most vulnerable children.

We all have such an opportunity to help in our world. Let's get to work on this!!!

World's End

Last year we had a guest right at the beginning of the year, Peter Kujawinski and his wife Nancy, came and visited us to talk about his and Jake Halpern's book, Dormia, and Nancy taught us the national anthem of Dormia. We did Dormia as a read aloud that we never finished (it's a long book)though some of you did finish it, but we loved it. The sequel is now out entitled, World's End. Peter and Nancy are now living in Haiti where he works for the U.S. State Department, but here's an interview with both authors. I linked you to the World of Dormia website, which is a great website if you haven't been there previously. If you are on facebook there is a Fans of Dormia group. Those of you who have read the book will recognize who is in this picture. I have the book at school if you would like to read it and haven't!
