bowling...

Thursday afternoon we had a great deal of fun going bowling.  It was a thank you from the school to Division One and Two for their good work as Peer Helpers and Hall Monitors.  I think everyone had a great time, once we figured out how to get Dwayne down the stairs,  He is going to be happy when he is out of his wheelchair but he was able to bowl quite easily!  Here are a few shots!

Someone was moving!! Shaina is sizing things up-I think she was our high scorer!

An exciting time at Kits

Near the bitter end....

Here they are the second best basketball team at the seventh grade level in Vancouver-excellent playing boys! After defeating Henderson they took on Trafalgar.  We just needed a slightly longer game as they narrowed the lead 40 to 48 after being twenty points down for awhile.  Well done!

Division Three Country research and using ipads

I am lending our website to Division Three students who are doing research on countries but my class may find this useful as well.
First of all when you are doing research a great place to go is the Trudeau Library webcat
When you are doing research using the data bases here are the passwords that you need
The login for the databases is: 39td
The password is: library
If you haven't checked out culturegrams you might find that site very useful about your country.
Now if you are doing research you need to give your sources.  Here is a good guide to doing a bibliography.

Now how to you present what you have learned?  Here is a guide to a multimedia project
Multimedia Presentation Ideas

  • Written information
  • Music
  • Skits
  • Collages
  • Cartoons
  • Models
  • Overheads, slides
  • Videos
  • Poetry
  • Art
  • Short stories/Journals
  • Computer graphics or web pages
(see Links page on library resources page for web links)
-web cartoons, web poster, blogs…
  • Maps
  • Graphs
  • Tables of statistics

Multimedia means using more than one form of presentation.  For example, in an oral report, you might also show pictures to help your audience understand your main points.

Think about the best way to present each type of information.  For example, a picture would be the best way to show art, but a graph would be the best way to show climate.  Make sure what you show is big enough for people to see!  Here is one site Ms. Heinrich found to create graphs, here is another that may be even easier.

Write out all the steps in your presentation. For example, if you are going to show a picture, decide whether you will show the picture first and then talk about it or first talk about the picture and then show it.

Practice, practice, practice!

One of the most fun way to present your information is with a prezi .  Here is the link to make a prezi! If you don't have an e-mail you may want to use power point, that is part of WORD on your computer instead.  You can make an online poster with glogster.  Another fun one is bitstrips. For some other great ideas go to Ms. Wong at Laurier School's website.
There are also ways to present using the ipad that we will look at as well.

Ah... basketball!

I had better try to get some pictures of your teams but I am going to post this one of the Junior Girls so they can see it (the picture is missing Amita who was sick and Brandie who has a broken arm).  And you can see Julia is there as well.  Many thanks to all of you who helped "coach" the team-Doris, Brandon B., Balkaran, Pharman, and Julia, of course!  I think we were all proud of their progress!

Studying Rocks

After a little problem with the bus, we made it to the Planetarium and had a great day!  I just thought I would post a few pictures!
Brandon seems to be having fun!
Well I am glad you didn't try to eat the candies when you were layering them in the test tube!
 Group Three looks intent!
Can you name that famous rock formation?
Hmm.. looks familiar but what is it made out of?

No, it isn't Neil Armstrong's ghost just Pharman!

Walking around the Maritime Museum...

At the end of the day minus Brandon B., Rajveer, and Dwayne who drove with Laura-and Harry who went to India and missed it-but maybe he found some interesting rocks there!
